Beginner Tap with Joan Walton

Joan Walton will start at the very beginning for non-tappers who want to try this fun and challenging dance form. Tap is great for your balance and your brain. Join us for this special dance class.

No tap shoes? We’ll have loaners on hand—check in advance to see if we have a size that will fit you, or just fake it in your hard-soled shoes.

PERFORMANCE

Joan has performed as a guest artist with the Naples Philharmonic and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, under the direction of Keith Lockhart, dancing Morton Gould’s challenging Tap Dance Concerto. She danced in a production of A Day in Hollywood, A Night in the Ukraine at the Human Race Theatre in Dayton, Ohio, and was a guest artist with the Vocal Arts Ensemble of Cincinnati for The Movie Music of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. She has tap danced at the Naples Dinner Theatre in Florida, Merkin Concert Hall in New York City, and at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music.

TEACHING

Joan Walton has taught Tap dance at Google Headquarters in Mountain View California, San Jose State University, The College of San Mateo, and at Dance Connection Studios in Palo Alto since 1998. Although initially trained in Broadway style tap dance, her styles range from soft shoe to vaudeville hoofing and Irish-based hard shoe traditions. She recently added improvisational tap to her classes, and delights in teaching all ages from teens through octogenarians.

She has performed and choreographed all over the country, taught internationally, and received a Masters degree in Dance Education from Stanford University’s top-ranked School of Education.
